I Left My Heart In San Francisco

Maybe it wasn't my heart, but I did leave bits and pieces of me. My sister, my mom, my aunt, and I went to UC San Francisco yesterday so I could go through a work-up: 8 vials of blood taken, an EKG, two chest x-rays, and blood pressure taken from each arm. It went amazingly fast. UCSF certainly has their stuff streamlined. It also helped that we were the first ones there when the lab opened up, when the EKG opened up, and there was no line for the rest.

In a week or two, the results will be in and we find out if I go on to step two, which is meeting with the physician, having an abdominal x-ray, and meeting with the psychologist and it always happens on a Wednesday. The comments were positive and they said so far I'm good to go. I do wish it could somehow be done in one trip, though. The drive was not as bad as I remembered, but I don't travel well and the Dramamine makes me tired, even the non-drowsy kind. I can stay awake, but my body really needs sleep to recharge. Case and point: Yesterday I took a two hour nap when we came home, slept for twelve hours, took another two hour nap today, and will be in bed early yet again.

I know it will be worth it in the end; I just wish the pace could be picked up more than a bit.

  1. I think next time I'm going to try to go with 1/2 a dramamine or none at all. Why the heck does that throw us for such a loop!?!

  2. I don't know, Dawn, but I'd sure as heck would like to sleep like that sometime!

I'm glad, too, that the trip went better than anticipated and pray that word will come very soon about the next step.
