As a girl, I can say it has its downs. Like how much clothes, shoes, makeup, and jewelry one can own with very little space to put it. Luckily, I'm a late bloomer. I don't have years of collecting behind me because I didn't care about any of that stuff until I almost was graduated from college. Jewelry is my downfall. Not expensive Tiffany or diamond type. Noooo. I love Avon and inexpensive costume jewelry. And I have lots of it. I'm in the middle of trying to get my stuff organized so come work on Monday, I can choose something that actually matches my outfit.
It's not that I have a massive amount of jewelry; my sister definitely gets the medal for that one, but it's that I want to see everything. If I keep stuff hidden in drawers, I never see it. If I don't see it, I don't wear it. I did get rid of a small pile of earrings that turned (all from Claire's...the metal has gotten so cheap in recent years that I can't even wear their sensitive ones without scratching my ears raw). I've pretty much gotten my earrings organized, but now I've got to sort out my necklaces and bracelets. This post will probably be rambling because I'm trying to work out how to organize.
I don't have too many bracelets because I've only really started wearing them within the last couple years. I've got a couple of jewelry stands that I will probably end up hanging my bracelets off of. I'd like to display my rings as well. I want to get one of those flat glass-topped hinged boxes that I can line them up in and see them all. Having them lie on their side on top of each other is too hard to find the one I'm looking for. The other day I kept over looking one. My rings are harder for me to change out, but if I have them, I should enjoy wearing them.
My necklaces are the hardest for me to figure out. I hung up an elephant hook my sister got me (three elephants with their trunks as hooks), but they don't hold very much. I gave my sister a lot of jewelry a while back because I don't wear it and I know she'd get some use out of it, but I need more room than those. Last year, I bought her two necklaces holders you hang on the wall that have like 32 hooks on them. I am considering getting myself one. (Curse the two holes I just put in the wall and would have to fix!). I wouldn't fill it up, but I'd be able to see my necklaces like I would like to and pick out the necklace without having to take off the six hanging in front of it.
I have a couple of jewelry boxes that I'll be putting aside, either for some other use or in the shed for later. I've got a collection that I've picked up from second hand stores. You know, the MDF painted kids type? I love drawers and they're so handy. But two of them are too tall for the shelves and the top is reserved for my lovely holders.
I'm thinking I need to go through my earrings again. I keep thinking of the few pairs I have that I will never wear. I can just stick those in a jewelry box under so if the occasion ever does come up, they'll be there, but I need the room for ones I can wear on a daily need.
I managed to get a couple things off my to-do list today. I weeded in the front of the house and some in the back. The backyard looks like it could use a mow again, but once every two weeks is good for now. The grass is just growing so fast. I put my soda under my bed. I'm an obsessed Dr. Pepper freak and I'm IN LOVE with the Dr. Pepper made with real sugar. And it was on sale at Target for $2.50 a 12 pack. You seriously can't get any cheaper than that. I stock up when it's on sale and under my bed seems to be a good place to store it for now. I wouldn't stock up if they'd make it a regular thing, but since the Dr. Pepper with real sugar is an anniversary thing, I'm not sure how long it will last. And I'll never make it to Texas to buy any, so I hoard my soda. Yes, I admit. I'm a soda hoarder.
I also got my DVDs on my shelf all nice and neat. I'm irritated with myself...I seem to be missing NCIS season 4 & 5. I thought I owned them, but it could be that season 6 was on sale cheaper so I bought that and told myself I will buy 4 & 5 later when the price goes down. I do that a lot and usually I can keep track of it all. But not this time, apparently. I do need more shelves. My TV seasons fit, but not all my movies (at the present, they are stacked on top of the TV seasons and my OCD does not like that they are not all lined up the same way). I thought maybe I could get away with not getting another six-cube shelf, but I definitely need one. My OCD can wait until those shelves go on sale again (I knew I should have bought two last time).
Yesterday I cleared off the six-cuber I did put up and I organized my journals and notebooks in it. My notebooks are from tallest to smallest per box, but my journals go across three cubes and I organized those from tallest to smallest. My sister got most of the stationary I had, while I kept a few things. I need to figure out how to store those. I do have some stationary stuff in those pretty shoe boxes from Micheal's, but they're still in the shed. I think I'll store my stationary out in the living room instead of in here. That way I can use the top of my shelf to display my knick-knacks.
I have been keeping my eye on Craigslist for a headboard, but there isn't one that I like so far. There is a black one that is neat (and cheap...$20 for both head and footboard), but I'm not sure how it will hold paint. Black is not a color of my room, so I'd have to paint it white. I'd really like one of those old fashioned metal ones, but I would take a wicker one, too. I like how wicker headboards look. I am no longer a member of freecycle (I stayed off for so long I got kicked out), but I may have to re-join to put out a want for one. I really don't want to pay more than $20 for one and they can get pricey. I want to hang my art on the walls, but I don't want to until I get the headboard because I don't know how tall it is.
I need to figure out the type of containers I need. I'm moving my make up in here. It's so cold in the mornings (I'm used to getting up at 2:30pm and not freezing), that I've decided to shower at night so in the morning I can turn on my little space heater, point it at me, and get ready, so all I need to do is go in the bathroom to brush my teeth. Twice last week I brushed my teeth with my jacket on.
I have managed to cut down on my shoe collection. Mainly because I can't totter around in the thin heels and I haven't been wearing anything taller than kitten heels. I love comfortable shoes. When my feet hurt, I'm miserable. I need to do something about my jacket collection, too. I have so many I don't wear, but can't bring myself to get rid of. You never know when I may need that certain one! I did cut down on my hoodies. I have a few left that are pull over, but I prefer zip-up. I need to consider getting rid of those to make room in my closet. And I need to use one of my bins for my camisoles. No reason to hang those up and it would free up quite a bit of room for my shirts.
Okay. Now that I've pondered this for forty minutes, I need to get back to clearing up. (And I've decided it's okay to ramble...this is a personal blog. So pfft.)

White wicker would look darling in your room!
ReplyDeleteYou should get a coat hanger rack thing for the living room--you could put the coats you wear most often in the living room, with a hat for good measure. it would look cute.
