Dawn went with me to OSH (yay! No sales tax!) so I could take advantage of their no-tax sale (so awesome, I'm telling you.). I made a list last night, which I brought with me. Since I have several projects going, I am happy to say I do not think I spent all that much considering. The trip to OSH (yay! No sales tax!) was followed by a trip to Home Depot, back to OSH (yay! No sales tax!), then Target.
First Project: The bathroom. On my list, I had replacement knobs and hinges. I did not find the knobs at OSH (yay! No sales tax!), so I put in a request to have them get them (though they sell them and just needed to be restocked, so big deal). I found replacement hinges for the cabinets, exactly like we have on them now. Except unpainted over and in black. Knobs were found at Target, which made me happy since we were there for handles for another project. The knobs and hinges are put up. We do need to paint, but that's a big job that will take a three day weekend. Looks awesome, eh? We previously had peeling-off white painted hinges and white ceramic knobs. Matching knobs were also placed on the medicine cabinet over the toilet and on the two upper cupboards (That have inside hinges so they were not needed). You can see my earlier purchase of rugs as well there. Oh, and the last thing I bought was grout stain/sealer stuff. It's grey to help hide the dirt. That has to sit for 72 hours, so that will be another day project. I have a three day weekend coming up in May that I could possibly use for that. I did not find the elongated toilet seat cover in black that I want, though I found it on Home Depot's website and will be ordering it.
Project Two: The Back Porch
This is an ongoing project that will take more than one weekend to get together. Obviously, haha. Anyway, I bought a broom at Home Depot and dustpan at Target to help sweep stuff up. I mentioned in an earlier post I threw away all the unwanted pots and dead plants. Next step is to remove the lava rocks, which I can happily say I can use for project number 3, so I don't have to worry about disposing of them. After lava rocks are gone, I'm going concrete in its spot, mosaic over it, then put loverly plants in miscellanious fun pots (so far i have a duck, a racoon, and a cat. No pot will be normal). We've got solid chairs so I have no worries about replacing the furniture until a later date. I did not have enough light today, so tomorrow I will sweep and move the lava rocks in the bucket I bought at Home Depot.
Project Three: Dog Poo Composter
I'm lazy and getting rid of dog poo is disgusting, which is the only reason I'm doing this. One day of digging a hole for a huge 25 gallon garbage bag more than makes up for trying to drop dog poo in a plastic bag on a windy day. I bought the garbage can at Home Depot. I have to find something to use to cut the bottom off and make sizable holes in the sides for aeration. I did not find my sewer starter, which is what you sprinkle in there to help the poo start to decompose. Oh, and the lava rocks from project two will be used here in the bottom of the hole. Dog poo can't be used to fertalize food gardens, but if we eventually get one done, it's not intended for that. It's intended to get rid of a massive amount of dog poo four dogs produce as easily as possible.
Project Four: Display Cabinets
Dawn told me to take one project on at a time. Obviously I'm not. Anyway. I bought her display cabinets for her dolls at Goodwill. Three for $100, over a year ago. The intention was to paint them, but they filled up with dolls rather quickly and other projects got in the way. So today we bought the spray paint at OSH (yay! No sales tax!). White primer to cover the dark brown color and to help the paint look evenly from the wood to the plastic portion (hey, no one said Goodwill furniture ever came without a little elbow grease). And a white sateen finish. That's for the cabinets themselves. We are going to remove the back and paint the inside back of that green, to match the color of the living room wall. It's a pretty light green. Anywho, it's to help the furniture fit in and not look so heavy. Trip one to OSH (yay! No sales tax!) resulted in us buying two of these cool small lion head pulls to see if they would fit on the cabinets, which they did, and one handle to see if they would work, but it did not (I'm keeping it to use on a later craft...I'm crafty. I use random stuff like that). Trip two to OSH (yay! No salex tax!) resulted us in going back to buy the rest of the number of lion head pulls we needed to complete the project...we went back today so we didn't have to pay sales tax.
Project Five: The Front Flower Beds
I know, I'm full of it. See why I'm hating being sick? I've created projects I can't wait to get started on and have not the energy to do them. I want to pull up most of the flowers in the front yard (Mom wants to keep the nasty smelling hydrangea plant) and put in daisies, crysanthemums, or similiar flowers of the like that will be nice to look at. Instead of the tangle of spider plants we currently have in there.
Project Six: Goodbye Crap
This will get completed first. I'm slowly bringing all the crap from around the backyard to the side so when Dump Day comes, it's all in one spot. And a lot of it is wooden bits of things the previous owner left. Stuff her dad made of wood and painted that is now rotted and sad looking and needs to be gone. I don't want our backyard to look so cluttered. I want it to be open and inviting so we're tempted to go back there more often. And to eventually be nice enough to have another proper shed put up so the one we build can be taken down.
I also want to cement the side of the backyard next to the little house cause it's too small for us to go through, really, and gets tangled too easily. And the dogs are always back there. Cement would help wear their nails, down, haha. Mom's project is getting a new fence put up since ours is falling down (being held up by a massive amount of willpower and rope).
I told Mom earlier today that before I got sick, I was thinking about how nice it would be to get a week of vacation off and sleep and laze around and do nothing. I have literally been able to do nothing for....eight days now and it's complete crap. I know I partly want to do it because I can't, but I honestly really want to do these things. And I've more listed these projects down for me than for anyone, so I can note my progress and keep a list of what needs to be done in each thing.
Tomorrow I will sweep. And wash my dog outside if it's nice. Yeah.
Cheers.
I'm glad we got to go to OSH. You're right--just the simple act of changing out the hardware made such an amazing difference.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the display cabinets! Again, hardware made a huge difference. And YAY that the glass can be taken out so easily! The biggest thing will be fixing the broken door on the one by the front window.
