There Was An Old Woman Who Swallowed A Fly...

Okay, so in this case it was a toothbrush. You get my point. I could not have picked a better book to read while I was ill. The Woman Who swallowed A Toothbrush by Rob Myers is a compilation of 51 unusual medical cases. Each case is it own "chapter". The only thing I found wrong was they were not numbered. I like knowing how far into a book I am or how far I have to go before it ends (depending on if I like it or not).

Each story was short, vivid, and to the point. There was some background, but it related specifically to the case it was concerning. It grabbed my attention for that one chapter, or two, and I was able to put it down without worrying about what would happen next because each tale was unrelated to the next. I was able to put it down, sleep, and pick it up again without feeling like I had to finish it.

I did warn my sister against reading it. Some of the depictions of surgery are a bit graphic and probably unnecessary to some people, but that's what I like. Not the gore, but it was written as it happened. No fluff to pad the book and make it longer than necessary.
