"Tempted, A House of Night Novel" by PC and Kristin CastI felt this book focused way too much on the relationship aspect of the book, rather than the end-of-the-world problems, that were rather major at this point. It seemed like the plot was thin and the big issues were brushed off for boys. Another problem I know many people had, including me, was that the point of view kept shifting. I had trouble keeping track of what was going on because of this. I really wanted to like this book as much as the other ones, but I could not.
I also have a problem with the language-as I do with many books written by these authors. There is too much slang. Pick one and stick with it. Instead, each character seems to have chosen a different slang "dialact" to speak. I am not a young adult, but even as one and in high school, no one spoke slang to the extent these characters do. I'm sorry, but it makes them seem more superficial than they are.
I wish this book had focused more on what Stevie was going through as well. We would get a vague hint of her problems, but it was brushed off for a relationship issue. There is more going on, which I'm sure will show up in the next book, but it will be lacking the background that could have been built in this one. All that aside, I did still like reading this, I just wish I liked it more.
